Union Thanksgiving food drive
đđ»North County Labor Council Holiday Food & Toy Drive
Hello ,
As we all figure out how we are going to "do" this Covid Thanksgiving, let us remember the many people who need our help this year.At our meeting on Monday night, DWC club member Rob Howard told us about this event, asking for our participation. Here is the information that Rob sent to me to share with you.
Hundreds of Union families need your help to provide toys for their own children this holiday season. As you are aware, it has been a tough year for many families, particularly among some of our Unions in hospitality and transportation who have had almost their entire membership laid off. But the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council is looking to help make this yearâs holidays a little bit brighter! AFT locals at Palomar College and Poway schools have been coordinating food distributions, with the help of SDICLC, since this summer. Itâs been rewarding work, and weâve been fortunate enough to serve thousands of local families over this time.
The Labor Council also hosts an annual Holiday Food and Toy Distribution for Union members, and this is where you can help! The Labor Councilâs goal is to collect 6,500 new, unwrapped, manufacturer-packaged toys (no weapons or stuffed animals) for kids ages 2-17. Our North County Labor Alliance can help make that happen!
We are looking to collect toys in North County by:
Asking local Unions to set up collections sites for toy drop-offs. Once a box full of toys (and we can get you boxes if you need) are collected, contact us to have the toys picked up.
Collecting toys at the next food distribution on Saturday, November 21 at Palomar College (San Marcos Campus). We are not asking those receiving the food distribution to donate toys; rather, we are inviting our volunteers, neighbors, family members, and fellow Union members to drop off toys at the 11/21 food distribution.*
Allowing your home or workplace to be drop-off sites as well.
So many of our colleagues are in need, and yet there are those of us still able to share. If you are able to help North County families this way, or want more information, please let us know. Teresa Laughlin, Barbara Baer and Debbie Forward from PFF, AFT 6161, are coordinating the North County toy drive, and you can reach any of us at [email protected]. In health and solidarity,Palomar Faculty Federation *We have 500 turkeys to give to needy families on the 21st, so please share the attached fliers and social media posts with those who would benefit!
