Join Our Party, Presidential Election and Proposed Bylaw Change
Hi ,
We're fast approaching our one year anniversary - a time to celebrate, look back and plan the future.
We've come a long way since our kickoff at the Bamboo Lounge last June to our latest meeting when we had almost a hundred attendees in conversation with potential and declared women candidates for the San Diego City Council District 9 seat.
After one year our founder and club president, Linda Perine is stepping down. Her focus, drive and direction helped get us underway, and we’ve made some great progress towards the goals she set for us a year ago -
1. Focus on policy not personalities– a problem that San Diego politics has suffered from in the past
2. Change the conversation– we will define policies and issues
3. Increase our knowledge– through research and education, by and for our members
Last year we ran a successful series of articles with the San Diego Free Press – Who Runs San Diego?
We educated ourselves with -
July – an analysis of the June Primary elections – We Walked. We Lost. What Now?
August – a conversation with Frank Gormlie, Doug Porter and Eva Posner on Media Control of Public Discussion
September – a presentation by Cory Briggs on the convention center expansion & the tourism marketing district and asked But Who is Looking Out For The Rest of Us?
October – a presentation and discussion with Anne Hoiberg on the Hobby Lobby decision and A Woman’s Right to Sex
November – a discussion with three courageous San Diegan women Martha Sullivan, Sarah Boot and Carol Kim on activism and post-election analysis – Warrior Women: the Wins, the Losses & the Future
January – a discussion on Steve Rivera’s Vision for the Party
February – a woman on a mission, Nicole Capretz, Leading the Charge for the Community Action Plan
March – a conversation with Council President Sherri Lightner
April – a presentation from Anne Hoiberg with Women Who Totally Get It
May – a discussion on Why San Diego City Council District 9 Is Important
We still have a lot to do. The local races next year will present a variety of challenges with a tough race to unseat the Mayor, to appoint a wise City Attorney and to elect progressives in D1, D3, D7 and D9.
Join us on June 15 as we look back, look forward and discuss how to get a chair at the table to write the menu and eat the cake.
As California Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Kamala Harris recently told District 6 2014 candidate Carol Kim –
“Stay in it. Try again!”
This month’s meeting June 15, 6:30pm will take place at 4089 Fairmount Ave, San Diego, CA 92105 (map) co-located with the AjA Project, overflow parking is available at the adjacent East African Community Center just south on Fairmount Ave.
Bring food to share ~ there will be cake.
As well as hearing from the nomination committee for club president we'll be voting on a bylaw change proposed at the last meeting.
We're updating the website for our anniversary, here's a
and some articles for you to preview. Let us know what you think.
