As I hope everyone knows by now, it's likely that we will not know the winner of the election on Election Night. It may take days or even weeks for all of the mail-in votes to be counted across the country.
Since Trump has repeatedly refused to say he will accept the results if not favorable to him, action may become necessary to preserve our democracy. A national response is being led by
, a coalition with over 100 partners including Indivisible, Planned Parenthood, and
.
Events are planned by local groups across the country. A coalition of Indivisible chapters here in San Diego will be hosting an action on November 4th if Trump refuses to accept or attempts to meddle with the results.
A site has been chosen with accessibility and safety foremost in mind. The location will provide the opportunity to bring signs, and to raise our voices so we are heard and the vote honored. It will also allow those who prefer to put signage on their cars and drive in support of the action. Out of an abundance of caution we will not announce the exact location until the day of the event.
The decision to deploy the action will be made the morning of Nov 4. Things might move fast, so here are two ways you can prepare to take action if needed:
If Trump contests the election we need all the support we can get, so please alert your friends as well. If a deployment is not necessary and Biden is the clear and uncontested victor, it is possible the event will be repurposed for a celebration. Obviously we hope for the best, but it's important to prepare for the worst.
Our participation in the
rallies/protests is the single most important action we will take since the original 2017 Women’s March and Airport protests. This election brings us full circle and if we are not out there in the same kind of numbers and passion we were then we risk losing everything we have worked so hard to achieve. This is critical work.
Wearing masks and maintaining social distance will be required.
All of us are anxiously anticipating tomorrow's election results. Our rights to being considered fully human hang in the balance. At our next meeting, we will assess where we need to focus for the next year.
. Polish woman protests a court decision to ban nearly all abortions - tens of thousands of women took to the streets of Poland’s capital - we must be prepared to do the same.
Resolution to support Monica Montgomery Steppe for president of the San Diego City Council
The Executive Board of the Democratic Woman's Club voted unanimously to support Monica - the People's Councilmember - to be the next President of the San Diego City Council. This election will take place immediately after the new councilmembers are sworn in on December 10, 2020.
An independent coalition of San Diego organizations and neighbors has come together to support an incredible leader to be the next City Council President.
Your Executive Board will be asking Club members to ratify our vote and empower us to add the name of the Club to the list of organizations on this website
.
Program: Energy
The program for our November meeting is in progress. Assuming we don't have to do massive grief counciling, in preparation is a panel to discuss the Community Choice Aggregation Program, the Energy Franchise and the Coalition to Electrify New Buildings. More details will be in the reminder email closer to the meeting date.
