May announcement

DWC-SD: May We Bloom & Grow 💐

Dear DWC Members and Friends,Thank you for all who joined us for our April meeting. Josan Feathers gave an impactful presentation on the Cotton Wood Salt Mine, and Suzanne Morse, Founder of Heartfelt Voices United, outlined the importance of Denim Day and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Thank you to both speakers for your wonderful contributions to our Club!According to the Farmer's Almanac, May is named for the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants. Maia was considered a nurturer and an earth goddess, so it's no surprise that May is her month. 💐 I don't know about you, but I'm enjoying the extra hours of sunlight and the hopeful blooms popping up all over our County. The last year has been a challenge but spring has come, and we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We have another fantastic program for you in this month. Tia Moore, the Academic Director of San Pasqual Academy, will be speaking about Foster Care Awareness Month, and Kenya Taylor will discuss Mental Health Awareness Month. We also recognize that May is both Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month. These communities have experienced increased threats over the last few years, and we stand with you in the fight against hate and for equity, accountability, and justice.

Please join us on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 7:30 a.m. for the fourth annual Women of Color Roar Breakfast. DWC-SD is the founding sponsor for this important event, and our members voted to renew our sponsorship during our April meeting. This year's breakfast will take place on Juneteenth and features a special presentation honoring BlWOC leaders; past, present, and future. One silver lining of this virtual presentation is the opportunity to include women from all over the country and produce a dynamic multi-media extravaganza! 🎉 Between the programming and the honorees, this event is not to be missed. Thank you again for your patience and grace as we transition to our new leadership. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
