KNOCKED DOWN BUT FAR FROM DEFEATED

KNOCKED DOWN BUT FAR FROM DEFEATED

From Our Club President, Dr. LaWana Richmond:I have been quiet because I did not want to respond from a place of emotion. The Supreme Court Decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last week evoked a great deal of angst and consternation. The Handmaid’s Tale became a little more real. The fact that this body of mostly men decided a woman cannot decide for herself what is going to happen with her own body is outrageous. As we choose how to respond, consider how much better positioned we are than our foremothers were when they fought for and won this right nearly fifty years ago. They did this with far less power and resources. We can make a difference. This is not a time to despair but rather a time to organize and leverage our collective power, networks, and resources to turn this ship around. We have another election coming up this fall. Not saying do nothing until then but to remember the importance of EVERY SINGLE SEAT. Gain the ground and then use it set things back in order. This is a time to call out to our allies and every marginalized group that we as women have sacrificed in support of.Now is the time to look to each other and lift one another up towards our collective greater good. In terms of actions, they range from rallies to letters and so much more. If any of you are aware of any upcoming events we should elevate, please speak up. We will continue to post on social media and provide updates via our newsletter as more information becomes available. Until then, do not despair. This is not the end of the story.

JULY 18th MEETING INFORMATION

Hello ,

In light of recent events, we have decided to have a July meeting with a focus on action.

Monday, July 18, 2022, 6:00 PM Check-in

Many of us are in our feelings right now and will understandably arrive at the meeting wanting to vent. Please arrive at 6:00 pm and engage in that part of the discussion during credentialing and check-in. At 6:30, we will promptly pivot to the business at hand.

The program portion of our meeting will consist of facilitated breakout rooms where the discussion will focus on response and action. While we will provide greater detail at the meeting, we’d like you to arrive prepared to discuss electoral, financial, and/or direct action.

One of the more important actions for our club’s future is recruiting someone to Chair the Nominating Committee for our next club election. Please consider whether you are the person to help move us forward as an organization.

MEMBERSHIP DUES CHANGE2022 + 2023 = Just $30In order to improve our Club's ability to effectively plan our activities and budget in the coming years, all club members will now have the same annual renewal date of January 1st, and memberships will cover a calendar year. During this transition, members will have the opportunity to renew their 2022 membership for the rest of 2022 for AND pay their 2023 dues for $30, rather than pay separately for 2022 and 2023 dues which would total $50.

Any new membership or renewed membership will extend from the date of payment through December 31st, 2023. Join or renew at: https://donorbox.org/dwc-sd
