JUN 18 – ROBERT’S RULES EVERY WOMAN’S CLUB MEMBER SHOULD KNOW – DOUG CASE + ⚽ SOCCERCITY INITIATIVE

June 18 Meeting - Robert's Rules Every Woman's Club Member Should Know – Doug Case + ⚽ SoccerCity Initiative – Joe La Cava

June 18 Meeting

Robert's Rules Every Woman's Club Member Should Know – Doug Case

&  SoccerCity Initiative – Joe La Cava

The Democratic Woman's Club meets monthly to discuss and determine common action. Following Edmund Burke's description from 1774 we are a deliberative assembly. In our bylaws we define our Parliamentary Authority as "the most widely used reference for meeting procedure and business rules in the English-speaking world" - Robert's Rules of Order.

Understanding Robert's Rules will help you at our own regular club meetings but more importantly when you visit other organizations and want to make your voice heard, and later when you are appointed or elected to commissions and boards in San Diego County!

We are fortunate to have Doug Case guide us through this world of motions, debates, and voting.

Doug Case is Political Affairs Director for Senator Toni Atkins. He worked in the Division of Student Affairs at San Diego State University for 37 years, is a dedicated volunteer and has served on both the College Area Community Council and the College Area Community Planning Board. Doug has also held numerous board positions with the San Diego Democrats for Equality, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation/San Diego, Campus Pride, and the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Doug would also like to remind us to support Pro Tem Atkins' Socks Drive for Stand Down for homeless veterans. You can bring socks to the meeting, as well as locations around San Diego. More details here.

Joe LaCava will present arguments in opposition to the SoccerCity Initiative scheduled for the City of San Diego November 2018 ballot. The citizen’s initiative proposes a sale/lease to private investors and redevelopment of city-owned land including the Qualcomm Stadium and the former Charger Training System.

Mr. LaCava is a Democratic Party activist and prominent advocate of community participation in the city’s planning process. He graduated from San Diego State University and is owner of LaCava Consulting. He is the former chair of the San Diego Community Planners Committee, the umbrella organization to the city’s 42 community planning groups, and was briefly a candidate for San Diego City Council in 2016. He currently serves on the eBoards for the Democrats for Environmental Action and Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 (C-3). Joe is a member of several democratic clubs including the Democratic Woman's Club, has been appointed to several city boards, and sits on several coalitions focusing on housing and transit. Joe is the spokesperson for the No on Soccer City Coalition (http://www.NoOnSoccerCity.com)
