February Meeting Reminder
February 21 @ 6:00pm DWC-SD meeting notice
Hello ,
Good morning Democratic Women's club members and happy Presidents Day weekend.
This is your kind reminder to save some time to join us for our monthly meeting tomorrow evening at 6pm.
We have postponed our E board elections for the interim. If interested or know someone that would b e a good first for our club please reach out to our membership chair Rosamond Blevins.
Our meetings are also available live on our YouTube channel. Someone will monitor the chat to text into the meeting relevant questions or comments that may be asked there.
Black History is American History
But we still wish to highlight one of the incredible Black Women who fought for Women's rights.
Fannie Barrier Williams
Fannie Barrier Williams | Known as: Educator, activist - Life: 1855-1944 | Fannie Barrier Williams was an influential educator and activist who was a staunch advocate for freed slaves in the South. She spoke at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, expressing her concern over the lack of Blacks on the Board of Control for that cultural event. She helped found organizations such as the National League of Colored Women, the National Association of Colored Women, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She also supported women's suffrage and in 1907, was the only African-American chosen to eulogize Susan B. Anthony at the 1907 National American Women Suffrage Association convention. As you may have noticed, our endorsed candidates have not been listed on our site as of yet, but we are working diligently to correct that. If you have any questions regarding the club endorsement process please reach out to Yvonne Elkin for further.
As always, if any member has questions or concerns, please feel free to call me. I look forward to 'seeing you' on Monday.
