NOON, DECEMBER 31ST

Each Assembly District will elect 14 delegates.  ADEM delegates make up around 1/3 of all party delegates, and vote on party endorsements, serve on committees, and more.  This year, you can either request a vote by mail ballot or sign up to vote in person at one of the election meetings in January.WHO CAN VOTE? Persons eligible to participate shall be all registered Democrats residing in the Assembly District, who have agreed in writing to abide by the Code of Conduct.

The nominating committee has begun their work to find qualified and interested candidates for the leadership roles that will soon be open. We are including the following information for your information in case you would like to be considered or if you would like to nominate another member:

Per the bylaws:ARTICLE IV, SECTION 3 - ELECTIONSThe Nominating Committee shall solicit interest from the membership for all the open elected offices and shall validate prospective nominees’ eligibility. The Nominating Committee shall select at least one candidate for each elective office and report their selections at the February meeting. At that meeting the Chair of the Nominating Committee will open the floor for additional nominations and a secret ballot may be held upon the request of any member. Those nominees who receive a majority vote shall be declared elected. If no person receives a majority of votes cast, a run-off shall be held between those two persons receiving the greatest number of votes. The person receiving a majority of the votes shall be declared elected.

Who is eligible to vote?

ARTICLE 3, SECTION 4 - VOTING Any member who has paid their dues by the beginning of a general meeting and has been verified by an Executive Officer shall be eligible to vote on club matters during the General Meeting except those listed below. A General Member in good standing who has attended at least two (2) prior meetings, as a member, in the previous twelve (12) months shall be eligible to vote for Club Officer elections and Club endorsements. Proxy voting shall not be permitted.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO SERVE AS A CLUB OFFICER?

ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS SECTION 1 - ELECTED OFFICERS Any member who has been in good standing for ninety (90) days is eligible to serve on the Executive Board as an elected officer, except for the office of President. To serve as President the member must be in good standing for at least one (1) year before the election. Elected officers of the DWC-SD shall be the President, External Vice President, Internal Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Membership and Director of Communications. Each officer shall be elected at the general meeting in February and will hold office for two years.

The Nominating Committee may, at their discretion, identify a qualified candidate for club office who does not meet the minimum membership requirements of ninety (90) days for officer or one (1) year for President. In those instances, that requirement may be waived by a two-thirds (⅔) majority of the assembled members present.

Should any elected member of the Executive Board decide to seek election to a public office for which the club may endorse, the member must resign from the Executive Board effective immediately upon publicly announcing their candidacy. This includes but is not limited to announcing at the club or any form of media; or filing with any government entity.

PER THE BYLAWS, THE  ELECTION OF OFFICERS WILL TAKE PLACE IN FEBRUARY OF 2023. THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE WILL BE LOOKING FOR MEMBERS WHO ARE INTERESTED AND QUALIFIED TO SERVE IN THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS:FOR A TWO YEAR TERM:

  • PRESIDENT

  • INTERNAL VICE PRESIDENT

  • SECRETARY

  • DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP

FOR A ONE YEAR TERM (to fill a vacancy):

  • EXTERNAL VICE PRESIDENT

  • TREASURER
